April 10, 2002 WCT at Arapahoe

A nice sized Field gathered to hunt the Arapahoe Hunt fixture. Everyone hoped the cloud cover would hold, but it soon gave way to another sunny Colorado day, forecast to reach the mid-70s. Despite the hot dry weather, the Arapahoe pack worked hard to find some coyotes. The first run of the day was on a leash, running away from a calving area. Hounds charged after them but when their lines wound out of a large gully to the higher prairie level, the scent was no more. The pack was then taken to a creek bottom where the Huntsman attempted to intercept another coyote viewed by one of the Whippers-in. The coyote did turn into this area and hounds found the line, but could not hold it for very long.

The creek was then hunted to the south, with hounds finding now and then, but again, the scent dissipated quickly with the increasing temperature and light breeze. One final run began out of the creek area to the east but as expected, the scent soon vanished. Although the hounds were unable to hold any of the lines long enough to experience the usual long runs at Arapahoe, the Field thoroughly enjoyed watching them give it their best.

After returning the trailers, everyone was treated to an excellent breakfast hosted by the members of Arapahoe.
