April 2002 WCT Hunting with the Paradise Valley Beagles

Courtesy of John Auborn

Cooler temps and breezes made for more normal conditions hunting at the Ranch House today. After a delay to break into the judges rental car (key was left on front seat) the Paradise Valley Beagles provided 3 hours of non-stop hare hunting. Not much ground was covered, but the beagles were working jackrabbit nearly all the time with many views during the semi-circular runs. This was my type of hunting so I'm a bit biased, but the entire field of ~50 had a good opportunity to see what beagling from horseback is all about. Lunch afterwards was supposed to be my duty, but as Donna is home with the coughing harriers the ladies of Reno did most of it and provided so much food that half of it is still in the trailers for tomorrow.
