Social Calendar

Hunting may be seasonal, but the Hunt's activities go on year-round. There is a Hunt activity each month enjoyed by members of all ages. Most are family affairs centered around the tradition and fun of foxhunting, but one need not be a rider to enjoy them. The calendar includes:

  • Welcome Party
    - First party of the new season, the purpose is for hunt members to greet prospective and new members in a comfortable social setting over snacks and drinks. Education on hunt traditions, stories and displays fill the evening. This way, new members will know quite a few people before they go out on their first hunt.

  • Formal Hunt Breakfasts
    - A more formal traditional after hunt meal sponsored by hunt members, held in both homes and clubs. Usually there is one hunt breakfast a month during the formal season where even the folks who did not ride or follow the hunt that day are invited.

  • Informal Hunt Breakfasts
    - A post-hunt meal, ' hungry hunters ' in NHH parlance - hosted by members of the hunt on a rotating basis usually a tailgate affair or meal in the clubhouse. Informal and satisfying, with tales of the day's hunt and hunts of the past shared. Welcome especially on a cold or wet hunt day.

  • The Hunt Ball
    - The season's social highlight, this is a white tie gala featuring elegant dining and dancing. A silent auction as well as a hound auction is held to raise support for the hounds for the next season.

  • The Annual Meeting and Awards Cocktail Party
    - At this end of the season meeting, members gather to elect board members and review the state of the Hunt. Laughter and stories abound amid great food, ample drink and gracious company. The event concludes with the presentation of special Hunt awards including one for the best fall during the season!

  • Hunt Camps
    - The North Hills Hunt offers young and old alike to spend time getting education about foxhunting and our land and its uses. Hunt members help organize and staff the camp, which offers a varied curriculum ranging from mounted riding lessons to working with hounds. attendees are provided opportunities to improve their skills on horseback and in hunt understanding. The second day of the session is a day of informal or ' cub' hunting with follow on instruction and question and answer time.

  • Horse Shows
    - Each year, the North Hills Hunt sponsors a recognized hunter/jumper horse show as well as a number of special hunter pace events and hunter trials. Members with qualified field hunters ( have completed 5 formal hunts during the course of the current season ) can compete for several special year-end awards.

  • Landowners Picnic
    - Once a year the Hunt throws a special party to honor the generous people who permit us to enjoy our sport by riding across their land. It is a wonderful opportunity to renew our mutual respect and friendship.
